Good campground. Also much cheaper and easier than anything in Yellowstone but close to the east gate.
Great national forest campsite on the way into Yellowstone. Serious views of canyon walls directly above the campground. Only five or so campsites were in use. Non-utility was $15 and utility was $22 and there were plenty of both. Didn't meet camp host since I arrived late. Fire rings and bear lockers are provided at each site. There are three restrooms and water stations but no showers. The campsites are fairly close together so could see it feeling crowded when full.
For Yellowstone on a budget, this place is great. About 45 minutes from the entrance of Yellowstone so wake up early. Signs say not to even brush your teeth at the water stations.. but give no other alternative suggestion. Toilets we're kept quite clean but I saved my bowels for the visitor center in Yellowstone. It's grizzly territory so being in a tent is stressful. Site was not maintained well for a tent, had to clear weeds out and level it ourselves a bit. Had a night that had >50 mph winds so stake down your tent WELL. We learned the hard way. Cliffs on one side so sun sets early Amazing stars out here though. For the price it's worth it.
Great basic campground. We stayed at a tent site without electricity. There are a few vault toilets in the campground, so it's not a long walk to get to one regardless of which site you stay at. The toilets were kept clean, as well, which was very nice considering that was the extent of the bathroom facilities. The location was great, too. It is about 17 miles to the East entrance of Yellowstone. It is close to the highway, and we could hear the cars passing by, but it wasn't loud or intrusive. Even though it is a campground with multiple sites together, the sites are not right on top of each other like at some campgrounds. There was a mix of tents and RVs while we were there. There are caretakers for the grounds who live on site. They were very nice, and checked on us when we arrived to answer any questions we had. If you want camping that's almost "roughing it", but not quite, then I'd recommend Rex Hale.
Good price $15 for night. You can reserve it for $10. Near Yellowstone park and Cody with Walmart and rodeo. You can easy find wood here for campfire. Windy place.
